KidsSports added Lil Sluggers in 2011 to further complement its child-oriented sports offering. Jeff Burg has more than 15 years experience coaching for children ages 4 to 14 at both a recreational and select level as well as working in a variety of business and operation roles. Jeff has been a resident of Waukesha County his whole life and enjoys having a locally owned and operated business that provides value to the community. KidsSports provides professional and specially-trained instructors with sports and/or child care experience.

Philosophy

KidsSports has been created as a place for children and parents to explore field based activities in a fun and relaxed non-competitive environment without the feeling of being overwhelmed. KidsSports relies heavily on the philosophy of its SoccerTots and HoopsterTot franchises as well as its Lil Slugger's license in its approach.

Mission Statement
"Deliver great child development programs that delight kids and benefit parents, the business, employees and the community."

Core Values
. Continually improve the way we teach, the curriculum and the way we do business.
. Deliver service with integrity and grace.

Program Philosophy
Our programs are designed to use a series of make believe games that encourage kids to develop motor skills and physical fitness while introducing them to the key components of a particular sport. Kids will participate with more confidence and gusto if the objectives are pure fun. The objectives for each game will always be non-competitive and fun, like kick the ball at the space alien or jump to the lily pads like a frog.

The other objective is to foster an attitude of accomplishment and positive self-esteem in the kids through a series of doable yet challenging tasks. The instructor/child ratios are kept small and all classes are co-ed.

Our program will use developmentally appropriate equipment as a key component. The objective of the program is not to develop elite players, but instead to introduce them to the sport and give them the confidence and desire to play the sport in the future for whatever capacity regardless of physical ability.

ABCE's of Our Program

Approach

Kids just wanna have fun!
Kids generally don't have an appreciation for the benefits of building a skill nor do they associate any benefits with being good at something. They are hard wired to learn through play. We understand the nature of kids and have created a curriculum that utilizes their motivation to develop athletic skills and fitness through a series of fun but beneficial games.

Super Concentration Mode
We succeed in building athletic skills by getting the kids into what we call the super-concentration mode. The super-concentration mode is where the kids are trying their hardest to achieve some objective that their brain and muscles are working together to learn and create muscle memory. That is where the skill development happens the fastest. The challenge is tapping into their motivation to get them into this ultra-skill-building mode. Most adults are too direct in their approach when training young children because they forget that kids at this age have totally different motivation.

The curriculum is designed to first introduce a game with a fun objective, and thus the motivation, then add challenges such as bringing the ball into the game. Our goal is to eventually get kids to perform a particular exercise that builds a vital skill while they are in the super-concentration mode. As a result, we get highly motivated kids in the super-concentration mode. We have found that to optimize skill-building, the indirect approach works much faster and better than the traditional direct approach for older kids and adults.

Benefits

1 Million Touches
Professional sports organizations like the US Soccer Federation advocates that in order for a child to become a skillful player, they should have 1 million ball touches before they are 16. While we won't give your child one million touches, it's a start. If your child starts in our youngest program and graduates up through the oldest, then they will have many thousands of touches that become the foundation for a lifetime of skill.

Prepare them for sports
The feedback we get from the parents of kids who have been through our program has been very enthusiastic, especially in regards to preparing them for sports leagues. We consistently hear that the kids go into the early stages of sports leagues as being very advanced compared to the other players.

KidsSports Programs

Curriculum

Progressive Curriculum
The curriculum is a progressive curriculum designed by experts with a comprehensive understanding of child development. The goal is to bring kids through the various stages so they not only grow their athletic skills and fitness but develop an interest and love for sports and aerobic activities. Each stage builds upon the previous stage with unique challenges and new skill building games. Children who have gone through the entire curriculum can demonstrate remarkable skill and have had great success in sports leagues.

In general the objectives of the program include:

  • running control
  • balance
  • ball control
  • ball control while running
  • specific sports-based control
  • fitness

  • As your child progresses through the program emphasis switches with more specific sport focus development objectives in mind.

    Expectations

    Skill Development
Our intent is to engage the kids in the games and lessons that develop their skills without them feeling like it is something they have to do. Sometimes a child will wander, get distracted, or not choose to participate. That's OK. We have a "pull" rather than "push" philosophy for participation. We try to engage or reengage them when they are ready. The people that are bothered the most by non-participation or not listening are the parents.

We build skills and measure progress by repeating games and lessons from previous weeks, but change the themes and add variations to keep them fresh and fun. This allows the kids to remember and constantly practice what they have learned. As the course progresses, we introduce new games designed to build new skills. The new games represent new challenges and new ways to have fun.
